Academy of Coastal Carolina 3rd grader, Sarah Ivey, a student in Mrs. Robin Gaskins class, entered her short story entitled "The Birth of Jesus" in the January 2017 local Arts Festival sponsored by the Shallotte Junior Women's Club. Her short story placed first in her grade level (3rd-5th) at the local level as well as placing first at the district level, which includes schools in Columbus, Bladen, New Hanover and Brunswick counties. It was then submitted to the state level competition sponsored by the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs – NC, where the judging place on March 4th at Campbell University. Sarah Ivey’s literature placed first within her age group at the state level.

The Academy of Coastal Carolina Eagles Men’s Basketball team improved its record to 6-3 with a 38-29 victory over Conway Christian. Dawson Hodge led the team with 14 points, Makoa Surigao added nine points, and Chris Cortes contributed seven points. On Tuesday, January 31st, the Academy of Coastal Carolina defeated Wilmington Christian with a score of 25-19 in the Eagles’ last home game of the year. Dawson Hodge was the high point scorer with nine points, and Makoa Surigao and Jaden Hodge each added six points.

The Academy of Coastal Carolina was selected to receive a National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) startup grant from the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. The grant will allow the Academy to expand its archery program and compete with other local schools in Elementary, Middle, and High School divisions.
The National Archery in Schools Program targets 4th-12th grades and introduces the sport of archery as a way for youth to get outside and stay active. The grant will cover 75% of the equipment cost for the Academy, as well as certification of several parent and teacher coaches.
